I stopped my work and knelt for a moment of prayer…feeling distant and out of touch with God. How do you even start to pray when you haven’t really been praying much lately? I wondered.
I looked over at my newborn baby sleeping in her swing, completely peaceful. “Thank you, God, for this child… She is truly the greatest gift You could have given me…” I said with feeling. My eyes lingered on her, my beautiful daughter. Once again, great love for her overwhelmed me. “How is it even possible to love her so much?” I asked.
And then, as my eyes rested on her sweet precious face, a beautiful quiet joy washed over my soul. This is how God loves me! I stayed there, so moved; so touched. I had never FELT the love of God so personally, so strong.
What had my daughter done to earn my love? Nothing…absolutely nothing, except just BE.
What had she done for me as yet? Nothing. Actually, she is incredibly needy. She is unapologetic about her constant
dependence on me…. I don’t mind at all. It’s my joy to take care of her.
I pondered this. How unlike me…who easily feels like surely God would be tired of dealing with me by now… Surely He is annoyed at my constant needs and requests…. But no. He’s not. My dependence on Him is His delight.
There were no reasons for my love for my little baby girl, just an absolute unconditional, overtaking love for her just being alive. Because she’s MINE.
I cried. Tears of gratitude and happiness to know I am loved with an absolute unconditional love, by the God of the universe…because I’m HIS.
