Sisters Corner – A Better Way

A Better Way

By: Judy Dyck

Two little pink lines. A whirlwind of feelings; and you realize that your life is changed forever. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first, or your fourth… Another life, another soul, another human that YOU are responsible for… And it truly changes your life… Forever.

I stared a long silent minute at those two pink lines.

And then I crumbled to the floor on my knees.

And cried.

The words came fast as I talked to God, and told Him just how impossible this is for me to manage. How scared I am. How vulnerable I feel. How this is too much for me. The words came and came and came…. Pouring like a fountain. I knew He already knew how I felt, but I told Him everything anyway.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:19)

Verse everyone knows. Off by heart, probably, right? It took on a new meaning for me in the following days, weeks, after seeing those two pink lines.

My natural self reacted in its typical way; took a look at my situation, and tried to come up with strategies to make this work:

Work harder.

Work faster.

Come up with a better routine.

Except I knew, that none of those was the answer. Even if I worked as hard and fast as I could, and added even more time efficient scheduling into my life… It didn’t take a genius to understand that all that would result in was a burned-out, joy-less, earthly -minded mother, who still wouldn’t be able to have things together, and whose family would suffer for it. Even my best efforts would still not be enough.

In the middle of this depressing realization setting in, GOD spoke into my heart, a better way. A way that would work. A harder, yet easier way: Trust and depend. On HIM. Every day. With everything. Before it makes sense. Yes, BEFORE. Before I see how it’s going to work out. Before I see that everything will be okay.

He reminded me of the five loaves and two fish. Jesus literally asked his disciples to do the impossible – to feed a crowd of thousands with five loaves and two fish. They couldn’t. But when they brought it to Him, trusting HIS ability to handle the impossible, the impossible happened. Thousands were fed. Filled. Satisfied. And had leftovers! There was more than enough.

Thrilling, isn’t it?! Can God do this for us? Make our limited capacity reach around to being more than enough, as we bring it to Him, and trust and depend on HIM? Absolutely. I choose this better way; what about you?
